Abstract

Building a leading sports power is the core strategy for the development of China’s sports undertakings in the new era, while forging a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation serves as the main thread of ethnic work in this period. The two are highly consistent in value goals, core connotations and historical missions. As a universal social language transcending regional, ethnic and cultural divides, sports uniquely functions to rally people’s hearts, integrate society, connect cultures and strengthen unity. From the perspective of national development strategy in the new era, this paper adopts the methods of literature review and logical analysis to systematically interpret the theoretical logic of fostering a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation through building a leading sports power, and analyzes the practical dilemmas restricting their integrated development. Targeted practical paths are proposed from five dimensions: cultural empowerment, event organization, popularization among the public, talent cultivation and institutional guarantee. This research aims to explore the value of sports in boosting ethnic unity, and provide theoretical reference and practical support for consolidating the foundation of ethnic unity and advancing the construction of the Chinese national community relying on the development of a leading sports power.
